Geology Students Cave Research at WVACS
Kelli Baxstrom and Andrew Hall are first year graduate students at Ohio University studying geology. Baxstrom's research consits of collecting and examining the chemical properties of stalagmites that are over 12,000 years old, to date them back to wildfires in the area, and to see how the formations of the caves were affected by the fires. Hall's research consists of measuring the length and depth of scallops, formations in the cave walls, to determine how fast the water that formed the cave moved through. Inside of Rapps Cave at the West Virginia Association for Cave Studies on the March 3, 2018 in Frankford, West Virginia, the students collect data for their research. Many graduate geology students are under the supervision of Geology Department Chair Dr. Greg Springer and come to the WVACS fieldhouse to collect samples for research. Athens PD: Following Officer Andy Foster December 2017
Officer Andy Foster is 38 years old and Athens Police Department badge 15. Over the course of a few shifts, I had the opportunity to follow Officer Foster around and see the kinds of things he deals with everyday; and some of the things we saw and had to take care of were not everyday scenarios. Many people have a jaded view of the police in Athens, Ohio. These men and women have better and more important things to do then bust college kids for underage drinking; opiod addictions run high in this county.
Officer Foster found Nicholas Sheballey's stolen painting, kicked a domestic disturbant off of Sheltering Arm's property manager Shannon Postel's property, had Joe Sinclair and Jerry from Curtis Towing tow an abandoned truck in Lowes parking lot, kicked Sherry Triplett out of Walmart because she had been banned for shoplifting, and tried to check on a resident of 4 Ellis street when his roommate Collin Black came into the hospital beat up with bloody knuckles.

Italy&Croatia 7/20/17-7/29/17
On July 20, my cousin and I flew into Venice, Italy to drop off our younger cousin with her mission friends. After spending the day in Venice and the night with them in Trieste, we started on our own journey down the Croatian coast. We traveled to 3 completely different cities in Croatia: Dubrovnik, Mljet, and Hvar. At each one we met empowering people, saw beautiful scenery, and were in awe of everything around us. We ended the trip back in Venice eating pasta on the Grand Canal. (and then proceeded to have a cancelled flight and stuck in the venice airport for 24 hours).
