Two Homes: One Quarantine
This project documents my family and the people close to me as we self quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020. My sister and I travel between our divorced parents’ homes during quarantine.
Dan, my father, falls asleep by the window after finishing his in-home workout downstairs on March 24, 2020. He has more time for personal reflection now that he is working from home in Aurora, OH.
My younger sister, Melina, and I laugh while watching “The Office” together. It is one of our favorite ways to spend time together, and we have gotten to do it more often now that I am home from Ohio University.
My father, left, does some yard work in the early afternoon at a time when he would usually be at work while my sister practices her soccer skills at home instead of on the field.
Purple hair: A different use for gloves during quarantine.
I watch as my neighbor, John Stojak, is put into an ambulance for what we believe was a lower body injury. The EMT's wear masks which, before COVID-19, they would not do when entering an injured person's home.
Light peaks through the cracks
Self portrait while quarantining at my mom’s home.
My father prepares for a conference call while working from home four weeks into quarantine. “There’s not much we can do about it, but it’s going okay. I get work done.“
Melina, right, and I get ready for a day of classes like we normally would. But instead of entering a classroom, we will be sitting across from each other at our dining room table and attending classes through remote video conferences.
Melina waves at our cat Max from outside of our home. The cat, like many of us, is stuck inside.
Melina carries her school books inside after we make the semi-weekly move to our mother’s house. Our parents are divorced, and even though we are self-quarantining, we move between their homes, both located in Aurora, OH, so we can be with them both during these difficult times.
Allyson Vaughn, left, watches a movie with Sara Januszewski on one of their last days in Athens, Ohio, as seniors at Ohio University on April 26, 2020.
Aurora High School seniors view the ceremony that was held in their honor by lighting up the stadium.
